The City as a Market, the Shopping Mall as a City

Through the Joint Research Unit called “TRANSITIONAL MORPHOLOGIES”, PoliTo DAD (Torino, Italy) and the SEU Department of Architecture Nanjing, China) want to examine strategies and methods used by human settlements to incrementally change an assembly buildings and space from one period to another period, from one place to another place, from one culture to another culture. The aim of this paper will develop an urban regeneration project, focusing on the retail spaces. The role of urban space and shopping mall in triggering and enhancing urban regeneration processes will be a specific issue of this work. And the location of project will be in Italy and China.
Ting Zhang graduated in ‘Territorial, Urban, Environmental and Landscape Planning’ at Politecnico di Torino. Her research interests focus on urban morphology, from the work from one urban regeneration project in Nanjing to her current PhD studies.
