Making the “Winter Capital”. The Urban Development of Nice Among Citizens, Tourists, Municipality and State (1815-60)
Tutor: Sergio Pace
This research investigates the dynamics intertwined in the implementation of the urban plans designed by the Consiglio d’Ornato in Nice (1815-60). Since the intellectual effort of the planning commission has been thoroughly described, this study explores the actual construction of the desired plans. A deep archival work aims to bring out the role of the local elite in shaping the city, through continuous negotiations and compromises with conflicting urban, political and economic forces.
