Galeazzo Alessi and the Libro dei Misteri (1565-1573): The New Jerusalem at the Sacro Monte of Varallo Sesia

The research deals with a manuscript volume of architectural drawings for the renovation of Sacro Monte of Varallo Sesia, a reknown devotional complex in Valsesia, Piedmont. The volume, called Libro dei Misteri, was realised in 1565-1572 by a group of artists and mastermasons led by the Late Renaissance architect Galeazzo Alessi.
Bio
Lorenzo Fecchio is a PhD candidate at Politecnico di Torino. He holds a Master degree in Architecture from the University of Florence, where he graduated in July 2016. After the graduation, he worked at the University of Florence as teaching assistant in History of Modern Architecture. His research interests are focused on Renaissance, especially on iconography of architecture and modes of communication used in architectural projects (drawings, models and administrative documents) during the Sixteenth Century.
